Shifts & swapping

Choosing a Shift

Members are expected to work one regularly scheduled shift every 4 weeks.  Alternatively, they can serve on committees or do other related work; contact members@thecog.org for more details on these special situations.  Shifts meet at a regular time, on a regular day, every 4 weeks.

When you join the CoG, go the the shift Calendar and pick an open slot.  Email members@thecog.org with what slot you have picked out, and they will update the schedule.  Then  show up at the shift!  You will be trained then.

Shift Calendar

Click here for the shift calendar on a Google spreadsheet. There are two main pages. The first is the shift schedule. Open shifts are marked. The second page, “Committees” (click the tab at the bottom), lists all the committees and alternative work shifts.

Swapping your shift (temporary)

If you can’t make a shift, please post to the email lists below as soon as possible. It is up to you to find someone to replace you on your shift, and by clicking the links below you can send an email to all other members looking for someone to trade with you.

If you work stocking, assembling orders, or membership services, click here.

If you work in childcare, click here.

If you’re a team leader, click here.

Swapping your shift (permanent)

Life changes and sometimes you want to change your shift permanently.  This is no problem.  Email members@thecog.org with what shift you want to change to and what shift you currently have.  You will get a notification back once the schedule is updated.

Committees and Shifts

Generally, a committee membership is expected to take more time than a normal shift.  When a member of a committee you will be given tasks to do between committee meetings such as handling email, researching products, or phoning members.  If you do not do these things, then you will be asked to work a normal shift instead.

Furthermore, we encourage all committee members to also work a normal shift; it is important to keep members “on the floor” so they know how the CoG works, and so committees are fully connected to the day-to-day functioning of the CoG.
